After rewarding careers working with students and youth, Pete and Marie Madsen decide to use the free time of retirement to reconnect with the people and places that helped them become who they are today.
As members of the Baby Boomer generation, the Madsens prefer face-to-face conversations over texting and emoticons-and experiences in the natural world instead of virtual thrills. So, with newfound free time, the couple sets out to visit people from their past and to revisit some of the glorious natural wonders that make this country great.
A collection of stories within the larger narrative of their trip, each chapter focuses on a different person or place that influenced the Madsens or helped shape the trajectory of their lives.
From junior high friends to people they met while living abroad, the interviews document a wide range of perspectives and experiences of people born between 1945 and 1964-and demonstrate the value of putting down the iPhone and really listening when someone shares his or her story.
A compelling travelogue and fascinating window to a couple's attempt to reconcile their pasts with the present, Book of Boomers will resonate with anyone from the postwar generation.
