About the Book

Liz Blackwell didn't ask for any of it. You're living your life, dealing with the ups and downs it throws at you, and wham! The mother of all apocalypses hits you. Your ex is an uber ghoul, your LGBTQQI activist neighbor's a witch, undead people are everywhere, and your best friend has your back - as long as you can keep your heads above water! ...."Think Harry Potter meets Alice in Wonderland and find themselves in the middle of The Walking Dead.Hip, real, scary, and subversively funny, with complex and deeply moving characters.THE BLACKWELL CHRONICLES are urban fantasy for today..." Scary After Dark"The writing was lively and energetic. Heavily feminist, heavily LGBTQ. It starts off with a girl whose brother is turning into a monster (well, he always was a monster, just, now it's literal). More, he's at the epicenter of an outbreak, but it's no normal outbreak. Combining viral-infectious stuff with possession/supernatural stuff, it's starting to look like the beginning of the end. Which it is..." The Horror Fiction Review...."Excellent! A really satisfying read on all levels. Full of menace and humor, with characters I loved. Even the ones I hated. Witches, intelligent zombies and all manner of monsters are as interesting as the protagonists. It takes you places you never expected to go. And the send-up of Trump (I'm pretty sure that's who it is) is truly hilarious. A rare treat in the urban fantasy /horror genres. I was really touched by the sentient zombie character, his struggle to be human in the true sense. Liz Blackwell and Bennie's wise-cracking friendship is one for the ages. And a shout out from the LBGTQI community for inclusiveness without fuss. Plus, the coolest talking cat ever! Definitely a book to savor more than once. I'm hooked on The Blackwell Chronicles. So are my son and husband. Trigger warning: you may laugh very hard when you least expect it. Also, some very frightening images. A delicious, satisfying read. The book has extraordinarily rich characters and contrasts that keep it exciting. Two contrast examples: The loving: Liz meets her grandfather: "Yes it's so nice here I took a nap..." Her voice trailed off. He was looking at her like she was the most precious treasure, eyes awash with wonder. "Dear girl," he said, his fingers framing her face with the sensitivity of ten hands. Behind his glasses she saw that he had beautiful hazel brown eyes with accents of mineral green and blue. They were melting like warm chocolate. The horrible: One of the evil antagonists comes to a bloody end. "In the middle of Bloomfield Avenue an oddly shaped spider crawled slowly through webs of gore. A closer examination would have revealed the upper half of a woman's bisected torso painfully dragging its' weight inside a stretched net of intestines. Hours passed until the creeping thing oozed free and dropped to the lingering undead below, where Eve Sachs gratefully met her final release.I loved this book. If you like horror and/or fantasy with a great heroine, absolutely recommended." -Laura Harris, Smashwords
