Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,0, Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald (Institut für deutsche Philologie), Veranstaltung: Frauen und Fernsehen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der Film "The Childen`s Hour" von William Wyler handelt von zwei eng befreundeten Frauen, Martha Dobie (Shirley MacLaine) und Karen Wright (Audrey Hepburn), die gemeinsam eine private Mädchenschule in Neuengland gegründet haben. Beide Lehrerinnen wirken routiniert und halten einen strengen aber liebevollen Umgang mit ihren Schülerinnen. Die Schülerin Mary (Karen Balkin nutzt ihren Erfindungsreichtum und das erpresste Wort einer Mitschülerin, um den beiden Lehrerinnen ein gesellschaftlich inakzeptables Verhalten unterstellen zu können. Unverzüglich informiert ihre besorgte Oma Mrs. Tilford (Fay Bainter) die gesamte Elternschaft, woraufhin alle Kinder von der Schule entfernt werden. Die zunächst unwissenden Frauen geraten in eine Lage, welche die Schattenseite einer konservativ genormten Welt zu Tage fördert. Ihre vermeintliche Andersartigkeit wird mit voyeuristischen Blicken aus einer Mischung von Verachtung und Neugierde der männlichen Gesellschaft bestraft. An dieser Stelle bietet die feministische Filmtheorie von Laura Mulvey (*1941) einen interessanten Ansatz zur Analyse von "The Children`s Hour". Mulvey kündigt in ihrem Artikel "Visuelle Lust und narratives Kino" an, dem immer noch "dominierenden ideologischen Kinokonzept" einer Analyse zu unterziehen, welche seinen klassischen Hollywood-Stil destruieren und "zu einer neuen Sprache des Begehrens" verhelfen soll. Um dieses hier kurz zusammengefasste Vorhaben zu realisieren, zieht sie psychoanalytische Ansätze von Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) und Jaques Lacan (1901-1981) heran und entwickelt eine Theorie zum geschlechtlich bedingten Blickverhalten der Kinobesucher.
