About the Book

A primordial evil lurks deep in the jungle. A ruthless killer. A deadly game. The ANTHONY, BARRY, & MACAVITY-nominated series continues ... Gabriella Giovanni has it all. A stunning penthouse in San Francisco. An exciting job on the crime beat. A doting, handsome husband and a beautiful little girl. So, when she complains about all the travel her husband's new DEA job requires, Gabriella knows she has good problems. But when her husband's plane goes down in the jungles of Guatemala and she is told he is dead, Gabriella thinks things could not possibly get any worse. SHE IS WRONG. Despite the U.S. government's attempt to find the wreckage, they come up empty-handed. Gabriella heads to Guatemala to find some answers, and hopefully, some healing. In the deepest, darkest jungles, it doesn't take long for Gabriella to realize she's in over her head and putting what remains of her life--and everything she loves--at risk.PRAISE FOR THE GABRIELLA GIOVANNI SERIES: "Kristi Belcamino brings her reporter chops to Gabriella Giovanni, the very best kind of heroine -- smart, plucky, and true. Keep your eye on this writer." - Lisa Unger, New York Times bestselling author of CRAZY LOVE YOU."Tense, disturbing and smart ... Belcamino is a writer to watch." Alex Marwood, Edgar-award winning author "Gabriella Giovanni is a one-of-a-kind character, and Kristi Belcamino is a writer to watch." --David Corbett, award-winning author of DO THEY KNOW I'M RUNNING? "In Gabriella, the author has created a compelling, utterly believable character who is at once vulnerable and tough as they come. The supporting cast, including the police detectives, the cunning villain, and denizens of the newsroom, spring to life from the page. The plot is as suspenseful as they come. And the gritty prose, distinguished by short, muscular sentences, is truly first-rate." --Bruce DeSilva, Edgar-award winning author of the Mulligan crime novels. "A fast-paced and remarkably assured debut ... Belcamino puts her experience on the crime beat to good use, creating the kind of villain who'll lurk in your nightmares long after the book ends. Double-check your locks before you crack this one open!" -- Owen Laukkanen, award-winning author of THE PROFESSIONALS "BLESSED ARE THE DEAD is a fast-paced, suspenseful read ...Gabriella Giovanni is tough, vulnerable and complex -- a terrific new series character." - Alison Gaylin, USA Today Bestselling Author of the Brenna Spector series "These pages practically turn themselves. Belcamino's gutsy media thriller takes readers inside the world of deadlines and dead bodies." - Julie Kramer, national bestselling author of the Riley Spartz thrillers
