About the Book

This book is about Pierce B. and Sarah (Van Boskirk) Bissell, who lived in western Illinois in the mid-1800s. It includes a wealth of factual information about their lives, their family, and the roots and branches of their family tree. Chapter 2 is about Pierce and Sarah and their family, Chapters 3 and 4 are about their parents and siblings, Chapter 5-8 are about their four main ancestral lines, and Chapters 9-12 are about the four main lines of descendants through their two sons and daughters who grew up to have families of their own. There are also three Appendices that provide additional information about Pierce's sister's inlaws (the Stevens clan), the various worldwide Bissell and Bizzell clans, and the Clouds and Cases who are a double line of ancestry for the book's authors. Numerous photos and images of documents and newspaper articles provide additional interest and historical value.
About the Author: Roger E. Bissell, born in 1948, is a musician and writer living in Antioch, Tennessee. He is a native of Iowa and attended public school and college there, earning a Masters degree in music performance and literature from the University of Iowa in 1971. Roger has pursued a career in music recording and live performance in Southern California and Nashville, Tennessee and has recorded two CDs available from CD Baby and Amazon.com. In addition, he has written numerous essays, some of which can be found on his website at www.rogerbissell.com. His 2014 book "How the Martians Discovered Algebra: Explorations in Induction and the Philosophy of Mathematics" is available in Amazon Kindle and CreateSpace formats, and he is currently working on additional books, as author or editor. Roger is married to Elizabeth "Becky" Beals, also an Iowa native, and between them they have 7 children and 12 grandchildren. Eldon K. Bissell (1925-1984) spent his entire life in Cass County, Iowa, working as a farmer until forced to retire for medical reasons in 1980. He served in the U.S. Army at the close of World War II, and he was a history buff, as well as an avid genealogist and sport hunter. Eldon married Deloris Schellenberg, and they had two children, who are the other two authors of this book. He also co-authored (posthumously) with Roger a book of poetry, "Next to My Heart: Poetry of Life, Love, and War," available from Amazon Kindle. Julie Ann Tupker (1952-2017), a lifelong resident of Iowa, graduated from Iowa State University with a B.A. in Distributed Studies (English, Psychology, and Education) and a teaching certification for secondary education in English. She had numerous artistic talents, including piano playing and singing, but she was also a skilled mechanical draftsman and cake decorator, and for 29 years she operated a home business, Julie Ann's Cakes, making thousands of wedding and other special occasion cakes for clients, friends, and relatives. She married in 1975 to Allen E. Tupker, to whom she was happily married for over 42 years, and with whom she had two sons and two grandsons.
