Von Englisch über Französisch bis hin zu Türkisch finden sich allerlei Fremdsprachen, die in den Schulen Einzug gefunden haben, um über nichtsprachliche Sachgegenstände aufzuklären. Dabei ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass Englisch den Platz der beliebtesten Sprache für diese Art des Lernens und Lehrens einnimmt. Englisch ist die "Weltsprache", die im integrativen Europa die Bürger zu mehrsprachigen Lernern verhelfen soll. Es gibt keinen Zweifel, dass Englisch auch in den Schulen als Fremdsprache ganz oben steht. Für den Einzelnen mag es vielleicht der Klang der Sprache sein, der reizvoll ist. Global betrachtet ist Englisch vor allem auch utilitaristisch, denn Berufe erfordern (gute) Englischkenntnisse. Aber warum ist es eigentlich die englische Sprache, die in den Grundschulen so einen Beliebtheitsgrad erlangt? Was bedeutet Englisch den Grundschülern? Können Sachinhalte auf diese Weise eventuell einfacher und nachhaltiger gelernt werden? In den öffentlichen Diskussionen stellen sich einige zunehmend gegen die traditionellen sogenannten "bilingualen Züge"1. Woher kommt das und welche Alternativen beziehungsweise Innovationen bieten sich an? Dass sich "bilinguale" Ideen früher wie heute immer noch vermehrt in der Sekundarstufe finden lassen, sollte ebenfalls nicht verwundern. Aber auch Grundschulen und sogar vorschulische Einrichtungen befassen sich mit der Idee, fachliche Inhalte auf einer Fremdsprache zu behandeln.
