Bildpropaganda geschrieben wird, dann müsste China die Materialien für ein solches Thema liefern. Die unter der Herrschaft Mao Zedongs in der VR China publizierten Propagandaplakate sind weithin bekannt. Die bunten, gleich aussehenden Bilder sollen dem Betrachter die von politischer Ebene vorgegebenen Ziele vermitteln und als Verhaltensmuster dienen. Nach dem Sturz der Qing-Dynastie entstand 1911 aus dem Kaiserreich China die Republik China. In den darauf folgenden Jahren wurde China von Bürgerkriegen und zwei Weltkriegen heimgesucht und ins Chaos gerissen. Bereits in dieser frührepublikanischen Entwicklungsperiode bildeten sich zwei politische Parteien heraus: die nationale Partei Guomindang (GMD) unter General Chiang Kai-schek und die Kommunistische Partei Chinas (KPCh) unter der Führung von Mao Zedong. Das antijapanische Zweckbündnis zwischen der Kommunistischen Partei und der zur damaligen Zeit regierenden Guomindang wurde nach Beendigung des Zweiten Weltkrieges zerbrochen. Daraufhin versuchte die GMD, die kommunistische Bewegung zu zerschlagen. Die KPCh wiederum baute ihre Machtposition während des chinesisch-japanischen Krieges in den ländlichen Gebieten des Nordens und Nordostens aus. Nach Kriegsende nahm sie, durch die Landbevölkerung unterstützt, den Kampf gegen die Regierungstruppen auf. Währenddessen versuchte die USA beide Parteien zu einer gemeinsamen Arbeit anzuregen. Aufgrund der jahrzehntelangen Feindschaft der beiden Länder und des daraus resultierenden Misstrauens war das Scheitern dieser Bemühungen jedoch absehbar. Es folgte ein weiterer, vier Jahre andauernder Bürgerkrieg in China. Nach dem Sieg der KPCh zogen sich die Guomindang-Truppen vom Festland auf die Insel Taiwan zurück. Es entstanden zwei ch
