Isolated, walled in and destitute, America stands alone. Her leadership wavers between servile, appeasing ineptitude on the one hand, and malicious tyranny on the other. Everything is in short supply - and hope might be the rarest commodity of all.
Colonel Richard Biggerstaff, USMC, cares not for politics. All he wants is to serve his country, provide for his wife and daughter, and be otherwise left alone. Though tensions are high along the Canadian border, he has the support of his men and his family. He has food, medicines, and sometimes even fuel.
Though the nation is suffering, at least his life is as good as could reasonably be hoped for. Purges have come and gone, but through it all he has managed to stay on top. He knows he has been lucky, and does not want to risk slipping up.
But from far away, a darkness is coming. Deadly intrigues are playing out in Washington DC. Ambitious upstarts, both foreign and domestic, are threatening what little remains of the American Way. Faced with impossible choices and terrible loss, will Biggerstaff rise to the occasion, or will he consign his country to darkness?
In this alternate history version of an All-American dystopia, it is up to a disparate group of individuals to determine the fate of a nation - and they don't even realize it. Their choices, big and small, are set to impact their world for decades to come.
