About the Book

No ordinary child, Shauntri is the reincarnation of the legendary bard of the humpbacks, Bichantrez, Singer of Two Worlds, reborn to sing the age-old wisdom of the whales to mankind. He is blessed with an astounding singing voice, which mesmerises all who hear it, and has incredible, undefinable talent in the water, the reason for which gradually becomes clear. A terrifying dream convinces Shauntri he must return to his previous home in Antarctica to reconnect with Setaysha, Great Queen of the Seas. To accomplish this, he must reassume his whale form and migrate the vast distance with his humpback family. This impossibility must actually happen, as the earth's very survival depends on it. Once reunited, Setaysha reveals the astounding reason for his reincarnation as a human child. Shauntri must locate 3 crucial elements, a magical stone, an elusive poet and the soldiers of peace, before he can sing his vital message for the very future of the world. A blend of fantasy, reality, myth and fact, Bichantrez, Singer of Two Worlds communicates the urgent need for conservation and a desperate plea for harmony and understanding, to save the earth we all inhabit. Man can learn from the whales if only he will listen.
About the Author: Val Taylor comes from the north of England. After graduating with a degree in English and American Literature, she taught high school for several years before moving to the Middle East and then Africa with her engineer husband and two young sons. In 1993, she moved to Australia. Val is a member of ORRCA, an organisation that offers help to injured or stranded sea creatures and a supporter of Greenpeace and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Blessed with a third son, an "old soul" who somehow knew things he was never taught, Val became interested in the philosophy of reincarnation and the spirituality associated with the soul's regeneration. Already having two older sons, she also knew that at some point, this special child would have to grow up and away from her and follow his own life path. She was determined to make the most of the time they had together and became much more aware of the unbreakable bond that exists between a mother and child. Eventually, it was this son who was instrumental in convincing her to publish the novel. Val became fascinated by the yearly migration of whales, passing by her home on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. A magical close encounter with humpback whales on a family holiday at Narooma, convinced her of their significance and gave rise to a feeling that they had a special message to give to the world. A growing awareness of the fragility of life on earth and man's disregard for, and too often, sheer cruelty to the creatures that share our earth, have become of great concern to her. The inspiration for Val's first novel Bichantrez, Singer of Two Worlds, was a direct result of these events in her life.
