Biblical Hebrew for All - Volume 4 (Textual Criticism), is intended as a self-study textbook for beginners and undergraduate students, focused on textual criticism. Volume 4 includes 1,500 BHS Footnotes.
From Vol 4's introduction & objectives:
After working through and mastering the content of Volumes 1-3 of this series, students have now reached a point where they have acquired a complete command of all the grammatical concepts for a basic understanding of biblical Hebrew. This enables them to produce accurate literal translations of the Masoretic Text. This in itself will enable them to more fully understand and appreciate what the text has to offer.
...
In an attempt to establish the most accurate form of the source text, students and scholars have to identify the instances where the original text may have been corrupted. By applying the principles of sound textual criticism, the reader would then invariably be able to come up with a dynamic equivalent that reflects the intended meaning of the author more clearly.
As a whole, the full Biblical Hebrew for All (Volumes 1-5) series features:
- 6,223 Grammar examples directly from the Hebrew Bible
- 27 Paradigm Charts covering all verb classes
- 1500 Verb forms, parsed and translated
- 890 Terms in BHS footnotes with examples
- The frequency of nouns and verbs shown throughout
The full five volume series literally 'lifts the veil' in that it comprises 'a selection of 400 passages from the Hebrew Bible, all fully explained and literally translated to illustrate the fact that a basic knowledge of Biblical Hebrew will enable the reader to compliment any standard English translation and discover much more from the original text'.
As a result of his own passion and drive to teach others language, Tian Hattingh has put together straightforward methods and approaches which facilitate students to efficiently learn Biblical Hebrew, (as well as other languages too). Since 2002 Tian has been engaged in working and running ESL/IELTS language schools in Asia, and on taking sight (in photographs) of some of Tian's many hundreds (if not thousands in total) of enthusiastic, happy and joyful language students - one can immediately know that a wonderful teacher and tutor has been found.
Tian has a passion and natural gift for learning, studying and teaching languages to aspiring students - and has been doing so for the last 47 years since he began studying the Zulu language in South Africa in 1974. The year 1974 also saw Tian begin studying Hebrew and it was not long before he was running beginner classes at a polytechnic in Rustenburg, South Africa, teaching others the Hebrew language. Since that time Tian has spent considerable time traveling in Israel further developing his understanding of Biblical Hebrew - and between 2014 to 2016 Tian conducted classes for beginners in Biblical Hebrew in the city of Shenzhen, China.
Since 2016, since moving to Vietnam, as well as continuing to work at ESL/IELTS language schools, Tian has focused on teaching Biblical Hebrew via online methods - based upon the system of learning 'expressed' and illustrated in the five volumes of Biblical Hebrew for All.
The five volumes cover the following:
Volume 1: Basic Grammar & Strong Verbs
Volume 2: Weak Verbs
Volume 3: Doubly Weak Verbs
Volume 4: Textual Criticism
Volume 5: Lifting the Veil
