About the Author: Born into a close-knit family of Italian descent, the oldest of three children and the only girl, everything I did throughout my entire lifetime has been close to home. I was educated and proceeded to educate in vicinities close to home. For whatever might have been needed in the family, for the family, by the family, I was always there-close to home. Throughout my childhood and young adulthood, I memorized everything in books. When as a young child and selected to sing the Mass in Latin at the age of nine, I memorized the Mass by singing it in verse. When teaching primary school-age children, I taught them to read through singing the rules of phonics, Math times tables, musical notes, history, and geography. We sang until there was nothing left to sing. As a young teenager, I loved reading Shakespeare and the ancient poets-how lyrical were the lines of poetry of ancient England and of our own. When I first began teaching the young children, I enjoyed reading children's literature to the masses that I would assemble each day after lunch, reading aloud to them for 15-20 minutes each day. The rhyming verse would hold them spellbound as I dramatized their fantasy and play. Throughout my years of education, my writing was quite technical: policy, procedures, curriculum, grants, federal and state reports. After retirement, my writing took a whimsical turn: Subconsciously, I returned to the rhyming, lyrical world of childhood fantasy to teach, to educate, to inform. Communication returned to the joyful days of childhood-learning through singing, through mystery, through childhood fantasy. Laughing hysterically as I read each child's book of vowel sounds to every living, breathing human who entered our household, I proceeded to expand the world of teaching children to read through the application of phonics-the sounds of our English language to historical travel, journeys, and world events. The first journey that Mr. Frog takes is to Italy, my family's homeland. From there, we journey to our country's beginnings and fight for independence. It is only natural that we end with Bible History: The Book of Genesis. This journey would not be complete but for the Handbook of Leadership and the Handbook of Education-thus completing the journey from which I had begun. This body of work, I'd like to share With the hope that you'll give it thought and care. May it earn a place within your good graces. May you consider it worthy of publication.
