Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Geschichte - Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Note: 2,3, Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (Alte Geschichte), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Levante war in der Zeit zwischen 1200-800 v. Chr. ein Gebiet, in dem die Phönizier als Händler zwischen den Großmächten Mesopotamien, Ägypten und den Hethitern tätig waren. Als Phönizier und Griechen durch den Handel in Kontakt kamen, wurde ein Verständigungssystem nötig. Das Konsonantenalphabet, das die Phönizier zur schriftlichen Aufzeichnung von Botschaften aller Art entwickelt hatten, kam im Zuge ihrer Handelstätigkeit zu den Griechen. Bei der Adaption dieses Konsonantenalphabet in die griechische Sprache entstand bei den Griechen aufgrund ihres Sprachsystems das Problem, Vokale darzustellen. Es stellt sich die Frage, wie die Vokale den Weg in das griechische Alphabet gefunden haben. Bisher ging man von einer Erfindung der Griechen aus. Neuere Forschungen lassen jedoch den Schluss zu, dass die Zeichen für Vokale bereits vorhanden waren und Griechen diese übernahmen und in ihre Sprache adaptierten. Die starke Handelstätigkeit in der Levante bewirkte einen Kulturaustausch, der die Verbreitung des Alphabets in den westlichen Teil der Welt bewirkte. Durch die Anpassungsfähigkeit der Alphabetschrift, in der jedes Zeichen einen bedeutungsunterscheidenden Laut abbildet, war es möglich, vorhandene Zeichen in eine andere Sprache zu übertragen, in diesem Fall die Zeichen aus der semitischen Sprache der Phönizier in die indoeuropäische Sprache der Griechen. Über die Etrusker und Römer, die wiederum die Buchstaben in ihre Sprache adaptierten, verbreitete sich das Alphabet in veränderter Form schließlich im europäischen Raum. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, die Levante und ihre kulturhistorischen Entwicklungen bis zum 8. Jahrhundert v. Chr., den Weg Phöniziens zur wichtigsten Handelsmacht der Levante und die Handelskontakte der Phönizier zu den Griechen darzustellen. Die Probleme,
