About the Book

When Ken James accepts a challenge from his long-term Washington, D.C. friend, Jane, to figure out a way to finance a presidential campaign without the influence of special interests, he has no idea what is in store for him. Ken comes to the conclusion that this seemingly impossible task might be done if he could us his geological training to locate a deposit that might have a big payoff over a short time-frame. It occurs to him that two teenagers who travel to Eastern Canada for their summer vacation might have fun while providing inexpensive manpower for a search aimed at discovering a source of natural colored diamonds. Ken concludes that sand samples from the shores of streams and lakes could provide the necessary clues as to the location of valuable deposits. While getting started, Ken recalls the many seemingly impossible events that occurred that are part of our nations history. These highly improbably occasions inspire him to focus on a goal that others view as beyond all human probability. Ken has a chance meeting with a friend who is a retired investigator for research companies working on highly classified military weapons systems. The spook, as this man calls himself, informs Ken that he, Ken, is on a secret watch list that is being maintained by a number of very important Washington politicians. Their goal is to achieve power and to be aware of any potential rivals. Ken finds it hard to believe that anyone in the D. C. power structure should think of him as a potential threat. He continues his search for any type of highly valuable mineral deposit in Eastern Canada along with his teenage friends. For amusement, he writes a story about an imagined debate between two female presidential candidates. While this is taking place, Ken receives a letter from the Russian government, inviting him to visit Russia in order to share views with the Russian President concerning what should be done to improve relations between the U. S. and Russia. The final chapter covers the visit to the Kremlin and the vigorous exchange of opinions and a musical concert climax that brings about an agreement focused upon the peoples of both countries.
