El Bermejo de San Jordi es un obra basada en las travesuras infantiles de un chico del pueblo de San Jordi a principios del siglo XX y las reacciones a menudo duras de los adultos de su entorno.


La figura que Borges eligió como tipo para su historia realmente existió, pero los pocos detalles de la vida real del Bermejo se complementaron ampliamente con la imaginación, la observación y las propias experiencias del escritor. Ese también es el caso de los otros personajes que juegan un papel en la historia.


Borges de Bixessari estaba un maestro narrador. Una imagen honesta y sincera de una época pasada, y de una juventud bien vivida. El libro está escrito de manera muy liviana y sencilla, trata sobre un niño común en el siglo XX al que le gusta jugar con sus amigos y hacer travesuras y, como muchos niños de su edad, odia la escuela. No es un libro en el que te quedas despierto pensando en el significado o la trama, sino simplemente un libro que puedes leer y disfrutar del divertido estilo de escritura y las aventuras de Del Bermejo.


Borges de Bixessari (1902 - 1984) fue el último vástago de una dinastía empobrecida de la nobleza terrateniente catalana cuyo padre se instaló en Andorra. Su padre murió cuando él tenía dos años y su madre lo crio con unos escasos ingresos que le proporcionaban las rentas de las restantes tierras de cultivo que la familia poseía en Andorra y una pequeña pensión de viudedad. Borges, por razones que solo él conoce, eligió convertirse en eremita y llevar una vida de recluso religioso mientras mantenía fuertes lazos con los monjes benedictinos de Montserrat.

El cronista guardó sus manuscritos en un cofre de madera, que fue descubierto durante la década de 1990 en un rincón perdido de un desván.

Cuando su contenido fue revelado a D. Cebriá Baraut Obiols, monje benedictino e historiador, éste reconoció tras una amplia investigación el valor literario de los manuscritos.

La curaduría estuvo a cargo de la Fundación de Arte Catalán, que encargó al dr. Xifra i Riera con la ardua tarea de catalogar y editar el caótico contenido del cofre. Lamentablemente, después la muerte del archivero, los manuscritos comenzaron nuevamente a acumular polvo en un rincón de los archivos de la fundación, hasta que un inventario realizado con el propósito de informatizar los archivos en 2017 sacó a la luz un primer borrador completo de este libro. La editorial BCD adquirió los derechos, y se espera que con los ingresos así generados se puede terminar la labor de catalogación y edición que fue interrumpida por la muerte del Dr. Xifra i Riera.
