About the Book

The purpose of this book is to clarify what racism is, is not, and whether all groups, the privileged as well as the underprivileged, can equally use this concept. It differentiates between the socioeconomic factors that makes one a beneficiary or victim of racism. The book analyzes why racism determines individual and family wealth, education, employment, and status in our society. In doing so, it attempts to clarify how conservatives use their power and influence to hinder social mobility for those of the darker hue. In their quest to maintain the inequities between themselves and less fortunate people of color, they employ misinformation built on unsubstantiated claims of "reverse racism," "zero-sum gains," "Ferguson effect," and "War on Police." In effect, they claim that they as hard-working, taxpayers, and the police officers who sacrifice their lives to protect citizens are the greatest targets, scapegoats, and victims of unruly, nonwhite, minorities. This book identifies "privilege" and "power" as the means to systemically impose prejudices and discrimination on powerless and disadvantaged nonwhites. African-American are identified as the most targeted victims of this systemic discrimination defined as racism. The beneficiaries of racism are members of the ruling class or majority who are often unaware of their own racial privileges and advantages. But, many are resentful and fearful of gains achieved by the rising minority/majority, that as they see it, is challenging their hegemony or dominance of the culture at their expense. The research undertaken examines how society's dominant group uses law enforcement to minimize its fears of people of color protesting their oppression, like the Black Lives Matter Movement. Law enforcement in the service of the rich, powerful and privileged have launched a comprehensive surveillance and counterintelligence program on blacks protesting the unwarranted maiming and murder of unarmed African-Americans by police officers. Those demanding accountability are labelled terrorist. These means are designed to frighten activists or assassinate their character or set them up for criminal charges, arrest, conviction and incarceration. Simultaneously, conservatives and their law enforcement supporters are advocating the greater usage of aggressive and bigoted policing tactics like "Stop and Frisk" and "Racial Profiling" to stirrup minority outrage and mistrust over this continued racial mistreatment. In turn, conservative forces stereotypically blame its victims and protesters for rhetoric that they unsubstantially claim has led to the murder of police officers by, mentally-ill, career criminals.
