Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich Soziale Arbeit / Sozialarbeit, Note: 1,0, Evangelische Hochschule Berlin, Veranstaltung: Religion und Gewalt, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Opfer ist ein Begriff, der in der heutigen Zeit überall bekannt ist und auch häufig - oft in sehr unterschiedlicher Absicht - verwendet wird. Doch was meint der Begriff des Opfers im Zusammenhang mit dem des Sündenbockes und dem von Gewalt? Auf diese Frage geht u.a. der französische Kulturanthropologe René Girard in zahlreichen ethisch-philosophischen Werken ein. Seine Antwort lautet: Das Opfer ist der Schlüssel jeder menschlichen Gemeinschaft und zugleich der aus ihr hervorgehenden Gewalt. Erst ein ausgewähltes Opfer dient in der Funktion eines willkürlich geschaffenen Sündenbockes der Schaffung bzw. in Krisenzeiten der Wiederherstellung menschlicher Ordnung. Das Opfer im Sinne eines Sündenbockes ist also nach Girard ein künstliches Produkt der Menschen, das für ihre selbst verursachten Missstände herzuhalten hat. Diese These ist innerhalb ethisch-philosophischer Ströme fraglos revolutionär. Und doch ist sie weder ganz neu noch unbegründet. Eine Disziplin, die sich ebenfalls mit der Problematik von gesellschaftlich Ausgestoßenen beschäftigt, ist die Soziologie. Sie versucht in diesem Zusammenhang vor allem die vielfach diskutierte Entstehung von Randgruppen als Opfer und Sündenböcke gesellschaftlich zu erklären. Kernaussage dieser Arbeit ist, dass die Opfertheorie des Kulturanthropologen Girard mit der Randgruppenerklärung der Soziologie eng verwandt ist und sich beide Ansätze wechselseitig begründen - und das wahrscheinlich, ohne dass sie gegenseitig allzu viel voneinander wahrgenommen haben, sondern eher eigenständig erarbeitet worden sind. Beiden Gedankenführungen ist daher auch höchste Aktualität zu bescheinigen.
