About the Book

Bed 39 is the ultimate love story which recounts two tales of romantic love surprisingly born on hospital death beds decades apart and in countries on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean. The love between Tomas and Mia in the US as well as David and Cicely in the UK are filled with meaning, passion and true love that transcend life and death. Bed 39 also tells the true story of the birth and evolution of hospice that sprang from David's and Cicely's love - the tale of an overarching bigger love, agape love, the love of humanity implicit to the evolution of compassionate care for the terminally ill. An array of beloved characters occupy Bed 39 over the decades. Thanks to Tomas' decision to imprint his soul on Bed 39 after his extremely premature death at age 27, we are treated to the unique humanity of each and the lives they have lived. Cowboy Jack, aging rock star Schulen McDermott, Mrs. Bailey and others enrich the story beyond measure. Hang on for a delicious tale that uplifts, inspires and totally satisfies a craving for a great story well told!
About the Author: My love for writing began as early in my life as I can remember. I was always scribbling my version of drama-filled prose on paper. I love words and the stories words can tell. But I also have had another great theme in my life-a deep burning desire to help people. That dedication led me to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Louis University and an RN diploma from St. Louis Municipal School of Nursing (AKA-City Hospital). I served as a Registered Nurse for more than 30 years. Over the course of three decades, I trained in an almost century old indigent care hospital, I spent a decade in the emergency room, I had a short stint in the ICU, three years in a plastic surgery clinic and even tackled healthcare marketing for a time. The past 17 years, though, my heart has been committed to helping my husband, Dr. Milt McKelvie with his small animal veterinary practice. My love for Milt as well as animals makes this a deeply satisfying involvement. I grew up in the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri. In the early years North County and later, Creve Coeur-two of those wonderful Americana towns where friendships form in childhood and last a lifetime. Without question it was good for my soul for me to grow up in more simple times when having fun didn't cost a lot of money. I feel a strong desire to share those kinds of rich times and appreciate every chance I have to integrate fond memories of yesteryear into the fabric of my various novels. My most supremely happy times, however, involve spending time with my husband, children, animals and grandchildren. It's pure joy being chased by my two toddler grandkids as they squeal and giggle in an effort to douse me with water from the pool! Of course, I do not recall doing that to my grandma, however, I dearly love that they feel free to do so and see me as a bundle of fun! They make me smile and warm my heart in a way that is truly indescribable. My husband and I appreciate simple evenings watching our favorite television programs with our furry canine kids. We dedicate a few days a week to working out at the gym and savor sunsets together. When we have spare time, we enjoy seeing the world and have traveled to Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia. We are greatly blessed! Please enjoy both my books, Bed 39 and Ice Within the Soul. My third book is a children's book titled: Bo-Bo's Bedtime. Thank you for your interest and happy reading!
