Las hazañas provocan atención demente cuando se las mira a distancia, sea esta larga o corta. Si se trata de narrar, cojo el lápiz y abro mi cuaderno de notas, el papel blanco se retuerce al contacto de las chiquilladas cometidas por Jack, es decir, mi persona embutida en marioneta. Papel melindroso, cree que la blancura es sinónimo de inocencia y considera violación el ataque de las letras. La mesera del lugar me mira con aparente interés, rascando en su magín intrigado sin hallar retrato entero de mi ser, porque siempre faltan los huesos de madera. Pido ron con jugo de tomate y limón. A sus órdenes, dice ella, cuadrándose al estilo militar. -Me agradan sus nalgotas tentadoras.-Echo pedos mortuorios -responde-, mi marido me prohíbe entablar relaciones de infidelidad, salvo los domingos en que él está tirado en cama por la cruda.-¿Y hoy qué día es?-Miércoles de ceniza, señor marqués. Empiezo con derrames cerebrales y una lengua. Digo que escogí casa pintada de blanco, sin pensar demasiado, sin tener claro el motivo de mi visita de artista, me jaló el color algo sucio de la fachada y trepé, chango en diarrea o araña panzona cuyas patas sostienen el vocablo empiezo. Algo que resuena, palabras en eco dentro de la mente hirviendo, sopa de pasta con cubitos de pollo, habladurías, espejo donde se contempla pálidamente el que terminó enfermo después de mirar el retrato pintado tal vez por Tiziano. Pero el comienzo no es el final. Tendría que tratar, empujando, de cerrarle la puerta a las frases que vienen pegadas como cola de rata, nalgas de mi esposa Genoveva, ser en rabia que dejó caer veneno en mi comida. Ahora, desde el final, montado en silla borracha, hago memoria y retrocedo, intento llegar a la parte primera, pero soy distraído por la pregunta de la mesera: ¿Qué va a tomar hoy, señor marqués, por lo visto salió ileso de sus males.-¿Qué no le había pedido ron con jugo de tomate?-No señor, hace un instante que su excelencia cruzó las puertas de la cantina, meneando su cuerpecillo como lagartija, así que supuse que vendría crudo.-El sol usa calzones de oro que envidian las lombrices -contesté bostezando y dormido, sintiendo la almohada rasposa, lija, lengua de gato negro provocando conjuros, por lo visto había caído en el hospital y no sabía por qué, razones hay de sobra para coger enfermedades, también para caminar en salud mental y física, pero el caso es que la temperatura había subido de pronto y me había visto en la urgente necesidad de parrandear en la cantina Los Tres Mosqueteros del Rey, abierta al paso de espectros nocturnos, por la puerta cristalera se habían filtrado Emilio Salgari y Virginia Woolf. Mis pies de plomo no querían moverse, pero los venció la propulsión espiritual del Santo Jacinto, tocando su mandolina. Al entrar vi a mi esposa Genoveva bebiendo vodka y enseñando los calzones al fondo de una piernas largas y gélidas. He salido de casa, pensé, me han encerrado en manicomio florido. ¿Ese es el comienzo? Podría serlo, si se miran los hechos desde el ángulo del pasado domesticado como can negro de nombre Jack.
