About the Book

Beautiful in Hats is a collection of monologues for women, ages 20-85. The women are from all walks of life, ages and difficulties. One is an elderly Newport Matron considering selling her "cottage" which was her family home; another is a young woman who seeing "moon-men" in her back yard. She is afraid she is going mad but would still like to talk with them; A very wealthy woman wonders aloud to a friend what to do with the painting which was given to her husband by his ex-wife, because the colors are all wrong for their apartment; A stripper/dancer tries to explain how she looks beautiful in hats; A woman who is going blind is ashamed to tell anyone but confesses to her doctor; An elderly once-famous actress gives a lecture while slightly inebriated (3 martinis); A young woman dying of cancer would just like to drive across the country once more with her husband who is a trucker.
About the Author: Linda Kampley has written 5 full-length plays, several short plays and one-acts, including GIRLS and SMALL TALK, both of which are with YouthPLAYS.com; and her collection of monologues, BEAUTIFUL IN HATS which is also published on Amazon's Kindle. Her one-act plat THE COLOR OF THE EVENING SKY has been produced 3 times; in New York City at St. Clement's and at St Jean's Playhouse, and also in Los Angeles by the West Coast Ensemble. Her one-act SMALL TALK also received a production at St. Clement's in New York City. When performed in Los Angeles, the DramaLogue called The Color of the Evening Sky "a true gem", and the LAWeekly wrote, "the play is remarkably intelligent and humane. Its images of human cruelty and compassion have poetry, humor and are shudderingly authentic. In New York City, Kevin Grubb from the New York Native said the writing was "reminiscent of Sam Shepard" and "as a character study alone, the Color of the Evening Sky lingers like a surgical scar". Linda has also written and published her poetry in over 30 poetry journals ans has been a featured reader in poetry readings in the New York metro area. As well she has been an actress for many years performing on and off Broadway. She understudied and performed Ophelia in Tom Stoppard's "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" on Broadway; was Ma Ubu in Ubu Roi at the Night House; the Women's Representative; has played Juliet, among others.
