About the Author: Maria Alogna Ludi has been active in diabetes patient and professional education for several years. She was formerly a nurse consultant with the Division of Diabetes Control of the Centers for Disease Control, Atlanta, GA. She also developed and taught a course for physicians, nurses, dietitians and others at the Emory School of Medicine, Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, GA. She has served on the Board of Directors and committees of the American Diabetes Association. Ms. Ludi was awarded the Ames Award for Outstanding Health Professional Educator in the Field of Diabetes by the American Diabetes Association and has also received the Public Health Nurse of the Year Award from the Assistant Secretary of Health.
