About the Book

Life and cases investigated by a 34-year law enforcement/intelligence officer in the USA and in Latin America. The title of this book was suggested to me many years ago when I saw a license plate frame with the words, Bad Cop - No Doughnut". As a police officer I thought it fit very well with the American concept that, "Cops like doughnuts - therefore - if he is not a good cop - he gets no doughnuts." My book covers many of the cases and situations I worked on during my career and I firmly believe that I do it all again, first thing tomorrow morning. In my opinion, enforcement of the law began with the Code of Hammurabi and has always been based on the idea that evil doers should be apprehended and punished for their transgressions against their fellow man, regardless of their position or status in the community.
About the Author: Andrew J "Andy" Best (Sr) was born in the Arizona desert north of Phoenix, Arizona on December 23, 1934, early in the Great Depression. His father was an Alabama Share Cropper who fled the draft of 1917 and his mother was a cotton-picker daughter from Baird, Texas. Andy attended Stevenson and Monroe grade schools in Phoenix and after being released from a juvenile detention center, went on to graduate from Phoenix Technical High School. Andy Joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the end of the Korean War, serving as a Drill Instructor and a Reconnisance Marine in Japan. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant E-4 in 1956 and joined the Phoenix Police Department that same year. He served as a Uniformed Patrol Officer, Detective, Planning Sergeant and Records & Identification Supervisor. In 1967, Andy joined the Office of Public Safety in Washington D.C. He served as a Police Advisor in Washington and later in Latin America. When the Police Advisory Program was eliminated by Congress, Andy served as Chief Deputy Sheriff with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Phoenix, Arizona and later as Administrator with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office. Andy joined the Arizona State Prison System as a Criminal Investigator and later developed the Inmate Intelligence System; identifying prison gang members and threat groups interacting with their brethren on the streets. He managed the Background Investigation Program for the Prison System conducting 8,000 investigations per year for four years. He then worked as a Criminal Investigator for the Horse and Dog Racing agency before retiring to play golf. Andy and his wife, Kimi, live in Pebble Creek in the middle of 45 holes of golf on the western edge of Phoenix, Arizona.
