Dennoch war das 19. Jahrhundert durchzogen von scheinbar unvereinbaren Widersprüchlichkeiten. Nietzsche bezeichnete diese Epoche als die "Ungleichzeitigkeit des Gleichzeitigen". Dennoch feierten im 19. Jahrhundert und in den frühen Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts von jeglicher Humanität entleerte Phantasmagorien literarische Triumphe. Ernst Jüngers "In Stahlgewittern" verherrlichende Kriegsprosa befeuerte ganze Generationen junger Männer, die im steten Kampf um Leben und Tod den Sinn ihres Daseins fanden. Richard Wagners kühne Musik bezeichnete der Wiener Musikkritiker Hanslick 1860 nach der Premiere der "Meistersinger" als eine Art Krankheit, eine Musik, welche die Realität aufzulösen vermöchte und einen narkotischen Zustand der Suggestibilität herbeiführe. Dieses Buch ist ein Streifzug durch die deutsche Kulturgeschichte des 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhunderts mit all ihren Widersprüchlichkeiten, Hoffnungen, Enttäuschungen und Irrwegen. Anhand verschiedener kultureller, musikalischer und literarischer Werke sowie politischen Strömungen sollen nicht nur deren Vielfalt, sondern ebenso auch die Irrwege, wahnhaften Prospekte und irrationalen Ideenwelten dargestellt werden, die den Weg in die Katastrophen des 20. Jahrhunderts vorgezeichnet haben, wenngleich die Absichten oftmals gänzlich anderer Natur waren.
About the Author: Dr. phil. Manfred J. Foerster studierte Soziologie, Psychologie, Philosophie und Erziehungswissenschaften in Aachen und an der Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz und promovierte bei Micha Brumlik in Heidelberg über die Analytische Psychologie und Archetypenlehre C.G. Jungs. Außerdem machte er eine Gesangsausbildung als Operntenor in Aachen, Wiesbaden und Mainz. Er leitete über 20 Jahre die Beratungs- und Fortbildungsstelle für haupt- und ehrenamtliche Mitarbeiter/innen des Hessischen Strafvollzuges und war als Lehrbeauftragter an der Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität Mainz im Fachbereich Erziehungswissenschaft, an der Hessischen Justizvollzugsakademie Wiesbaden sowie an der Thüringischen Justizvollzugsschule Suhl-Goldlauter tätig mit den Schwerpunkten: Frühkindliche Bindungserfahrungen und Sozialisation, Ursachen und Auswirkungen von Persönlichkeitsstörungen sowie Persönlichkeitsprofile serieller Sexual- und Gewaltdelikter.
