About the Book

Averse Again Now and Then is a literary compilation of satire, light verse, and humor in classical forms of prose and poetry. A student of literature would find submissions to include the limerick, ode, dramatic monologue, sonnet, haiku, ballad, villanelle, and the poet's favored forms, free verse and metered rhyme. This is the companion volume to At First Averse and Then Another. There are artistic submissions interspersed throughout, also the creations of the author. Five chapters are devoted to the curious idiosyncrasies of the fifty states of the United States, portraying each within their historical context. The wit and humor within this volume are intended to entertain the reader--a goal the author intimates as most needed in a digitally saturated, politically divided, and complex world that sometimes loses its way.
About the Author: Author W. Thomas McQueeney is a native of Charleston, South Carolina, and honor graduate of The Citadel with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. An active member of the community, he has written over one hundred columns drenched in Carolina Lowcountry humor. McQueeney serves as the 2017 President of the State of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame. He has served as a member of his college trustee board, The Citadel Board of Visitors, and served other boards to include the St. Francis Xavier Hospital Board of Directors, The Citadel Foundation Board, the Patriot's Point Maritime Foundation, the MUSC Children's Hospital Development Board, and the Board of Directors for Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach. He chaired the Johnson Hagood Stadium Revitalization project to its conclusion as a $44.5 million enhancement. He chaired the Charleston Metro Sports Council, and the Southern Conference Basketball Championships. He is a Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 704, and Past Race Director of the Knights of Columbus Turkey Day Run, the largest 5000-meter running event in South Carolina. He currently serves as Chairman of the Medal of Honor Bowl. He has served in similar capacities for myriad community and statewide organizations. McQueeney is a recipient of the Order of the Palmetto, the State of South Carolina's highest award bestowed upon a citizen of the state. He was inducted into The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame as an honorary member. He is an accomplished artist, humorist, public speaker, and lecturer. He is one of six brothers who have graduated from The Citadel, a national record for all U.S. military colleges. He is married and has four children and four grandchildren. He resides in Mt. Pleasant, SC, where he operates a small business. In addition to his prowess as an author, columnist, and artist, he is an avid traveler, photographer, and historian.
