About the Book

My unbelievable story of emotional and psychological endurance. The long-term effects of emotional, verbal and physical abuse, while being gay in a predominant homophobic community. Homophobia is real, and it impacts almost every area of a person's life who happens to be LGBTQ. Whether we know it or not, whether we'd like to believe it or not. Changing one's perception doesn't always necessarily change the outcome. Homophobia is a serious subject matter, that requires a community to get involved! No LGBTQ person should have to deal with this alone. My book is an education to those who still think homophobia is behind us.

To the best of my ability, I will explain to my readers why homophobia is still a very real, and very problematic (particularly in poor communities of color) by sharing my personal experience. As America goes through a major cultural shift, now more than ever, we need to start creating open dialogues concerning tolerance and acceptance. Your personal beliefs are not everyone else's reality. If you don't open your hearts to at least respecting people for who they are, and as they are, then we as a society cannot grow. If we don't truly make an effort to understand people who are different from us, one day it could mean the difference as to whether we survive or not in America. You may never be able to put food on the table, if you're gonna quit every job where you suspect your employer happens to have a gay employee working in the same department or building.

There are good and bad people everywhere and in every culture. It is not logical to immediately assume that every gay person you come in contact with is weird, disgusting or evil. It's illogical to treat LGBTQ people as if heterosexuals has never done horrible things throughout history. Contrary to what many homophobic individuals believe, gays are not out to "destroy moral values." The world has evolved so much in terms of medicine and technology. Yet, socially we're still very much primitive.

Homophobic bullying is not just someone being an "*sshole." Homophobia overtime causes a form of PTSD in some people. Unfortunately, there are very few support for gays, lesbians, & trans people who suffer this level of depression. Most professionals are just not well equipped to assist a LGBTQ person with such a complicated matter. The LGBTQ people are human beings just like str8 people, and we deserve to live our lives in peace without daily harassment or unwarranted fears fueled by sexual insecurity. We need to start taking a very serious look at mental health in the LGBTQ community, and that includes LGBTQ persons themselves. A lot of our own privileged LGBTQ has no clue to the level of seriousness of homophobia, and how it has devastated a significant portion of our people (particularly SGL people of color, in poor communities).
