About the Book

In a book like no other. Travis Breeding goes where no one has gone before and talks about his experience with puberty and sexuality with having Autism. This is anything but the birds and bees of puberty and sexuality. You will get real life experiences as Travis shares his heart with you. Sexuality is confusing for teens and young adults on the Autism Spectrum. You'll learn how Hollywood confuses are teens with things seen on television. You'll see how the special interest can play a role in sexuality. You will go through Travis's junior high and high school experiences. You will learn how important it is to teach and develop your child's self esteem before they reach puberty. Most importantly you will learn just how important context really is. This book is a must read for all parents and educators wanting to gain better insight into their children or students. When talking about puberty with your child it's important to remember and understand two things related to social skills. 1. Social Thinking 2. Social Context Social thinking is more than just the social skill. When I am socializing I am using more than just the skill. I"m thinking about how it's being perceived by others and what I can do to maintain a conversation. I'm thinking about how I'm standing. Where my eyes are. There's a lot to this that is covered in the book. Context is how something you tell your child might be perceived by them. An example of this is a young woman with Autism who is now a mom. Her mother had always told her growing up that she couldn't get pregnant until she got married. We are very literal thinkers. The girl thought her mom meant she couldn't physically get pregnant until she was married and didn't use proper protection. You must prepare for our literal interpretation of things and think careful about what you're telling your children. Here are some key points covered in this book. Your teen may realize he or she is different than their peers by the time puberty sets in. Travis' felt as if he was an alien or an animal and couldn't figure out why he didn't fit in with the rest of the kids. Travis gave up his lunch in order to sit next to people during lunchtime. As a young adult Travis was taken advantage of and paid people to be his friend. Travis was a late bloomer. Travis developed an interest in girls at the age of 21. Travis didn't understand how to interact with the opposite sex. Travis used his financial aid money to pay girls to go on dates with him. (He would pay them to be on the date) not just pay for the date. Travis would sometimes pay as much as $1,500.00 for a date. Travis didn't understand the slang words for sex or body parts and was bullied and picked on because of that. These are all key points covered in Autism: I Have Desires Too." Travis shares what he went through and this offers advice to help your child through these years. Great book for teachers, educators, therapists, and parents. Also a great book for teens and adults on the spectrum.
About the Author: I'm Travis. I'm a 28 year old author of books about autism. I like football, basketball, tennis, hiking, music, rock, writing, reading, and talking. I have overcome the greatest challenge in my life. I no longer cope with autism I live happily with it. I have some really amazing friends and a truly inspirational and awesome best friend! Life had always been a struggle for me until I started taking responsibility for my own life and situation. I spent a long time wanting and expecting others to fix or improve my life and make it what I wanted it to be. Truth be known, I was the only one who could and can do that. Now I write books about autism and how I am taking responsibility for my own life. What a difference I've seen in life. Life is what we choose to make of it. I don't want to just be known as a guy with Autism. I want to be known as a guy who's doing something awesome with Autism! Travis is dually diagnosed with Autism and Schizophrenia.
