Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Eine wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung mit Electronic Commerce-Konzepten findet bisher überwiegend im Rahmen des Marketings statt, während der Logistik eine eher periphere Berücksichtigung zukommt. Diese beschriebene Lücke in der Literatur steht mit der zunehmenden Bedeutung des Electronic Commerce für die Logistik im Widerspruch, was bspw. eine Schlagzeile der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung verdeutlicht, in der die Logistik „[...] zum kritischen Erfolgsfaktor im E-Commerce" erhoben wird. Daher untersucht die Diplomarbeit die „Auswirkungen der Electronic Commerce-Entstehung auf die Logistik eines Unternehmens", um die enormen Chancen zur Steigerung der Produktivität und der Wettbewerbsfähigkeit aufzuzeigen. Gang der Untersuchung: Die Abhandlung beginnt mit einer Einführung in die Thematik und einem Problemaufriss. Im Bereich der Logistik wird zunächst auf die Entwicklungsphasen und wesentlichen Ziele eingegangen, bevor der Nachweis über die Notwendigkeit eines Informationsmanagements erfolgt. In diesem Zusammenhang wird die zentrale Position des neuen Mediums Internet hervorgehoben und es erfolgt die Darstellung ausgewählter Dienste (E-Mail, WWW) sowie technologischer Konzeptionen (Intranet, Extranet). Hieran anknüpfend werden die grundlegenden Modelle der elektronischen Leistungskoordination und die wichtigsten Interaktionsmodelle des Electronic Commerce (B2C, B2B) betrachtet. Den Abschluss der einführenden theoretischen Grundlagen bildet die Gegenüberstellung von Chancen und Risiken im Electronic Commerce. Mit der Zusammenführung von Logistik, Internet und Electronic Commerce im Hauptteil der Diplomarbeit werden die Veränderungen auf die bestehenden Logistiksysteme detailliert aufgezeigt. Dabei ist als Ergebnis die zentrale Verfügbarkeit von Daten und Informationen hervorzuheben, wodurch die Globalisierung der Beschaffungs- und Distributionslogistik forciert wird. Des weiteren werden Möglichkeiten erörtert, um beim Electronic Shop
