Mögliche Zielgrößen und Kennzahlen sind die Kundenzufriedenheit beziehungsweise die Neukundenquote. Das mittelständische Unternehmen ist unmittelbar von Veränderungsprozessen aufgrund der Digitalisierung betroffen. Die COVID19-Pandemie hat diese Entwicklung nochmals stark beschleunigt. Die gesamte Welt wurde in einen Lockdown versetzt, Kontaktverbote wurden ausgesprochen und das Privat- und Arbeitsleben musste neugestaltet werden. COVID19 hat gezeigt, welche politischen und gesellschaftlichen Auswirkungen eine Pandemie zur Folge haben kann. Während einige Unternehmen im Laufe der Pandemie Insolvenz beantragen mussten, konnten wiederum andere Unternehmen ein enormes Wachstum generieren. Auch das untersuchte Beispielunternehmen konnte ein immenses Wachstum generieren und ist innerhalb von zwölf Monaten um mehr als das Doppelte gewachsen. Damit die hiermit einhergehenden Herausforderungen bewältigt werden können, müssen Spezialisten engagiert werden. In einer derartigen Schnelllebigkeit wie in unserer heutigen Zeit kann es für Unternehmen durchaus von Vorteil sein, die dazu notwendigen Kapazitäten durch externe Spezialisten hinzuzuziehen. In Form von Dienstleistungen stellen Unternehmensberater ihr Know-How von außen zur Verfügung. Anhand der individuellen Problemstellung ist die Aufgabe von Unternehmensberatern, die Entwicklung bzw. die Überarbeitung bereits bestehender Beratungs- und Managementansätze, welche aus zeitlichen, kapazitiven und/oder qualitativen Gründen nicht selbst umgesetzt werden können. Sogenannte Managementkonzepte dienen dabei als Lösungsansätze der Problemstellung. Wichtig bei einer externen Unternehmensberatung ist die Messbarkeit der Beratungstätigkeit.
