About the Book

See below for English description.

Aventure... Devoir... Danger... Peur...

Adventure... Duty... Danger... Fear...

Experience Canada's past through the eyes of young men who lived it! Au Canada... is a series from the creators of the award-winning Dear Canada (Cher Journal) books. These stories of adventure and exploration are written by some of Canada's top authors and include historical maps, documents and photos.

Fourteen-year-old orphan William Jenkins joins the British navy, serving on their warship HMS Pembroke, which is part of Britain's fleet setting out to take the French stronghold of Quebec.

William's experience at a printing house brings him to the attention of navigator James Cook, a naval officer on the British warship Pembroke. William signs up to serve with them, and soon learns that the world of a British sailor is a harsh one, especially when the ship lays siege to the fortress of Quebec and is attacked by French fire ships -- burning wrecks set downstream to set the British warships on fire. On one raid William is captured by the French allies, the Abenaki, and taken into Quebec itself. Will he succeed to escape?

The topic is the same as that of Trottier's Dear Canada: Death of My Country (Cher journal -- Mon pays à feu et à sang -- the siege of Quebec/the Conquest. The defeat of French troops at Quebec eventually resulting in New France coming under British rule.
