Dies ist, wie unter 1.1 ausgeführt, eine der wichtigen Grundlagen, um den beständigen Unternehmenserfolg zu sichern und auch in Zeiten der Globalisierung, des Wandels und des daraus resultierenden Wettbewerbsdruck zu bestehen. Die in dieser Arbeit vorgestellte Assessment Center Methode bezieht sich auf Verfahren die ausschließlich der Personalauswahl dienen und grenzt somit das Einsatzgebiet des Assessment Centers für diese Arbeit ein. Es lassen sich aber auch einzelne Teile auf andere Einsatzgebiete (siehe 2.3 Einsatzmöglichkeiten) des Assessment Centers übertragen. Das Ziel der Arbeit ist somit das Verfahren Assessment Center verständlicher zu machen und die Stärken und Schwächen sowie die Chancen und Risiken darzustellen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt bei der Gegenüberstellung der Vorteile und Nachteile mit dem Schwerpunkt der Untersuchung von Bewertungs- und Beobachtungsfehlern. Daraus ergibt sich für die vorliegende Arbeit eine Einteilung in drei theoretische Grundlagenteile, die dann in der SWOT Analyse zusammenfließen. Im folgenden, zweiten Kapitel werden zuerst die theoretischen Grundlagen des Assessment Centers dargestellt. Hier wird eine Definition geben und die Geschichte des Assessment Center abgebildet. Anschließend erfolgt eine Betrachtung der Einsatzmöglichkeiten und der Gütekriterien eines Assessment Centers. Das dritte Kapitel zeigt die beteiligten Personengruppen eines Assessment Centers.
