El Asesino de las lluvias es la octava novela de Manuel Salvador Gautier, todas ellas con un sello particular: la ubicación dentro de la historia y la geografía dominicana. En todas sus novelas los personajes existen dentro de una realidad política, social y económica que no nos es ajena; interactúan con sus propias historias. Manuel Salvador Gautier es dirigente del Movimiento Interiorista, y esta novela es una muestra fehaciente de la profundidad con que abraza y ejerce esta corriente estética. La primera pista de que esta novela busca algo más que el simple hecho de narrarnos una trama se nos revela en los títulos de cada capítulo: "Como ser la verdad y no existir" "Como matar un sentimiento y quedar contento" "Como ser el ser que se quiere ser" Tres capítulos, tres planteos que interrogan al ser humano en su propia esencia, en su ser más intimo. Planteos existenciales que a diario persiguen al hombre, y que en esta novela nos marcarán el camino que irá recorriendo nuestro protagonista, en un conflicto permanente entre la realidad terrenal y la realidad trascendente. About the Author: MANUEL SALVADOR GAUTIER Nació el 1ro de agosto de 1930. Estudió primaria en el Colegio Luis Muñoz Rivera, en Santo Do-mingo, y secundaria en The Peddie School, Highstown, New Jer-sey, USA. Hizo estudios generales de premédica en Cornell Uni-versity En 1993, publicó la tetralogía Tiempo para héroes, sobre la expe-dición de Constanza, Maimón y Estero Hondo de 1959. Ganó el Premio Anual de Novela Manuel de Jesús Galván para ese año, que otorgaba entonces la Secretaría de Estado de Educación, Bellas Artes y Culto. En 1995, publicó Toda la vida, que mereció el mis-mo premio. Desde 1995, pertenece al grupo literario Ateneo Insular, del Movimiento Interiorista, dirigido por el intelectual Bruno Rosario Candelier, donde participa activamente, y donde ha realizado una obra intensa presentando ensayos cortos sobre la novelística nacio-nal e internacional. En febrero de 1999 público Serenata. En octubre del 2001 recibió el Premio de Novela de la Universidad Central del Este por su obra Balance de tres. En noviembre del 2002 fue declarado ga-nador del "Premio Víctor Hugo en la Historia", con el ensayo "La fatalidad no está en un campanario de París". En enero de 2005 presentó siete relatos en Historias para un buen día. En agosto de 2005 su cuento "Urías" ganó el Segundo Premio en el concurso internacional de cuentos y poesía Premio "Citta de Viareggio", en Italia, promovido por la editora Il Molo. Concursó traducido al italiano. En febrero de 2006, publicó el en-sayo Jaime al descubierto y en octubre, Ediciones Cedibil publicó su novela El asesino de las lluvias, que fue traducida al italiano por Maria Antonietta Ferro y publicada en 2007 por Giovane Holden Editori de Lucca, Italia. En 2007 Editorial Santuario publicó una segunda edición de su novela Balance de tres, y en 2008 y 2009, una segunda y tercera edición de Serenata. En 2008, publicó una segunda edición de El asesino de las lluvias y en el 2009 Un árbol para esconder mariposas. En 2010, esta editorial publicó el libro de ensayos Gautier visto por Gautier y las novelas Dimensionando a dios, sobre la juventud del patricio Juan Pablo Duarte, y La fas-cinación de la rosa. En mayo del 2011 ganó el Premio Nacional Feria del Libro Eduardo León Jimenes con Dimensionando a Dios, otorgado al mejor libro publicado durante el año 2010. También en 2011 publicó Tres cosas te ofrezco y en el 2012, El misterio de la corbata verde.
