About the Book

For thousands of years, artists in cultures across the globe have been captivated by the grace and beauty of the horse, making it the subject of countless works of art. Now anyone can learn to capture the mysterious and powerful nature of this beloved animal by following the clear, easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions in this book. Whether an aspiring artist wants to draw or paint with oil, acrylic, pastel, or watercolor, this book contains all the information they need to get started. Materials and techniques specific to each of the five media in this 144-page book are clearly outlined and discussed before they are put to use in projects that any horse lover will enjoy. Beginning artists will learn all about the anatomy of the horse, features unique to different horse breeds, how to render lifelike horses in poses ranging from grazing to galloping, and much more.
About the Author: Elin Pendleton has been painting since the age of 9 and selling her paintings since 1983. When she was in her teens, she was recognized for her artistic talent by the late Millard Sheets, and since then she has studied and painted in South America, Central America, and Mediterranean Europe. She is traditionally trained, with a bachelor's degree in fine art from San Diego State University. Elin's award-winning paintings are found in both private and corporate collections throughout the United States and Europe. She has studied with noted artists, and she is a skilled teacher who conducts workshops for aspiring painters. Elin's home and studio are located in the mountainous terrain north of the Temecula wine country of southern California. Perched high on a hill, the studio overlooks the massive mountains of the San Jacinto and San Gorgonio wilderness areas. She lives with her husband, who is a university professor, and a variety of domestic animals, all of which have found their way into her paintings.

As a young girl, Patricia Getha spent many summers looking after and showing horses. Drawing played a large role in Pat's life from an early age, but it was a love of horses that enabled her to master the subject. With formal training in commercial and graphic arts, Pat is proficient in a variety of media, including watercolor, graphite, oil, and colored pencil. She is active in juried competitions and has won several awards for her exquisite equine artwork. A mother of four young children, Pat currently resides in Ohio and works primarily as a commission artist.

Patricia Getha of Ohio works primarily as a commission artist and creates stunning artwork in graphite, watercolor, oil, and colored pencil. Lesley Harrison holds workshops in her hometown of Sutter Creek, CA. She has received a number of professional honors and awards for her technical excellence. Cindy Larimore of Jamul, CA, has won many local and national awards for her animal paintings. Her work is exhibited at animal shows, fairs, and racetracks throughout the US.
