Grundfragen einer modernen philosophischen Anthropologie, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Seit Platon interessieren sich Philosophen für die Anthropologie und stellen dabei Fragen wie z.B.: Was ist der Mensch?, Woher kommt er?, Was vermag er?, Wohin geht er?. In der Antike wurde der Bezug des Menschen zum Kosmos und der Natur akzentuiert, während das Mittelalter den Einzelnen über die Natur erhebt und parallel zur Gottheit darstellt. Beiden gleich ist allerdings das "Hineingestelltsein" in eine göttliche Ordnung. Eine individuelle Einzigartigkeit ist abgegrenzt von einer für alle gültigen Weltordnung. Erst mit der Neuzeit begreift sich das Subjekt als autonom, als jemand, welcher die Welt kreativ, selbsttätig gestaltet und auf diese einwirkt. Zwischen dem 16. und 18. Jahrhundert entsteht die Anthropologie als eigentliche philosophische Disziplin. Der Mensch wird nun in seiner Individualität und seiner Selbständigkeit erfasst. Ende der 20er Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts greift Scheler diesen Gedanken auf; fortgesetzt wird er dann u.a. von Plessner und Gehlen. Arnold Gehlen postuliert eine Doppelwertigkeit des Menschen. Dieser ist einmal mit allem anderen Lebendigen auf einer Ebene, aber nimmt auch wiederum durch den Geist eine Sonderstellung ein. Der Mensch ist instinktarm, weltoffen und demnach frei, im Gegensatz zum Tier. Der Mensch unterscheidet sich durch Sprache, Selbstbewusstsein und Handlung vom Tier. Er kann sich an verschiedenste Umweltbedingungen anpassen, ist also nicht an ein bestimmtes Milieu gebunden. Der Mensch ist nicht determiniert und kann sich eine zweite Umwelt kreieren, die ihn von seiner Instinktarmut und Organunspezialisiertheit befreit.
