Der Produktionsfaktor Arbeit behalt trotz steigender Teehnisierung und Auto- matisierung aueh heute seine groBe Bedeutung. Da naeh der Statistik die Zahl der zur Verfiigung stehenden Arbeitskrafte in den naehsten Jahren annahernd gleieh bleibt, ist besonders in bezug auf die erhohten Anforderungen an den Mensehen, den Arbeitsbedingungen und der Betreuung in den Betrieben gesteigerter Wert beizu- messen. Auf dem arbeitsmedizinisehen Sektor kann dureh starkere Bekampfung der Berufskrankheiten, Verbesserung der werksarztliehen Dienste und der arbeitsme- zinisehen Einriehtungen der Betriebe die Gesundheit der Arbeitskrafte gefordert und damit ihr Arbeitseinsatz verbessert werden. Eine solehe Hebung des Gesundheits- standes dient nieht nur dem personliehen W ohlergehen, sondern aueh dem der Familie, des Betriebes und damit dem Volksganzen. Die Studienreise fuhrte auf Anregung des Bundesministeriums fur Arbeit und Sozialordnung Staatliehe Gewerbearzte, Werksarzte und Vertreter der Mini- sterien im Herbst 1963 in die USA. Sie hatte das Ziel, Anregungen fur eine Ver- besserung der werksarztliehen Dienste, Einriehtungen und der arbeitsmedizinischen Bemuhungen uberhaupt zu erhalten. Mogen die Ergebnisse der Studienreise dazu beitragen, die Diskussion uber den Ausbau der Arbeitsmedizin zu befruchten und Staat und Wirtsehaft die Bedeutung dieser Fragen zu veransehauliehen. Die Ergebnisse waren nur dureh die Aufgesehlossenheit und das Entgegenkommen der besuehten Institute, Behorden und Firmen in den USA moglieh. Wir moehten daher allen amerikanischen Institutionen und Betrieben fur ihre Bereitsehaft zum Erfahrungsaustausch danken. Gleiehen Dank ubermitteln wir auch den Teilnehmern der Studienreise, die die Erstellung dieses Berichtes ermoglieht haben. Unser Dank gilt ferner dem Bundesminister fur Wirtschaft fur die finanzielle Unterstutzung der Studienreise.
