El ensayo que el lector tiene entre sus manos, viene a ser un aldabonazo en el portón del recuerdo. Su lectura nos encara al rastreo de la huella de ese otro Yo inefable -espíritu, fantasma-, instándonos en la urgencia de su recuperación para alcanzar así una personalidad integrada. El racionalismo cartesiano entendió al ser humano como compuesto de dos substancias irreconciliables: cuerpo (res extensa) y alma (res cogitans). Sin pretenderlo, esta partición acabaría por favorecer la desaparición de la segunda. El viejo espíritu que durante siglos había sostenido la carne, transiéndola de vida, no pudo resistir a estos embates, cayendo, finalmente, en el olvido. El alma, la chispa de luz de los órficos, se extravió definitivamente en el sepulcro de la carne. En la presente obra, la búsqueda de ese compuesto etéreo se hace no desde una determinada ideología confesional, sino desde la autonomía que concede el conocimiento del variadísimo acervo del folclore, la mitología, la historia de las religiones, el pensamiento hermético..., así como también de las aportaciones del saber positivo. A lo largo de sus páginas hallaremos que su destierro es, en realidad, aparente, pues, aunque minoritariamente, su memoria ha logrado mantenerse en áreas de culturas primitivas, periféricas a la nuestra. Pero es que, ya dentro de nuestro propio ámbito, han persistido grupos reducidos que no han querido resignarse a la situación equívoca que los valores dominantes imponen. Nombres señeros lo demuestran, Helena Petrovna Blavastky, fundadora de la Sociedad Teosófica; Rudolf Steiner, padre de la antroposofía; el perturbador George Ivanovich Gurdjieff, etc. Y, aunque no ungidos de ningún tipo de mesianismo, cómo no recordar también al psicoanalista Carl Gustav Jung, a René Guénón, a escritores como Willians Butler Yeats o Herman Hesse entre otros.Por otra parte, el autor del ensayo reúne las cualidades imprescindibles para encararse adecuadamente a esta difícil empresa. Si, de un lado es un gran conocedor del conocimiento esotérico, de otro -por su formación y su profesión- se encuentra dentro de la tradición científica. Ello le sitúa en inmejorables condiciones para afrontar la fenomenología del hombre mágico y de lo inefable que lo envuelve. No desdeñará los datos que para dicho fin pueda ofrecer la nueva biología, la física, la astronomía ..., descubriéndonos la viabilidad del maridaje de sus aportaciones con las verdades de la ciencia sagrada, que hunde sus raíces en el pasado más remoto de nuestra especie. Saber éste que se nos ha legado de manera discontinua y, las más de las veces, encubierto con la parafernalia de las instituciones religiosas, los ritos y las leyendas.¿Es que, acaso, el hombre actual, sometido a una alienación embrutecedora y sofisticada, le puede interesar para algo un trabajo así?¿Acaso no sabemos que el anciano Dios ha muerto y con Él ha desaparecido nuestra necesidad de trascendencia? Ese hombre secularizado, que ha perdido el sentido, precisa, tal vez ahora más que nunca, -como Jesús dijera a Pedro- "palabras de vida eterna." La ilusión tecnológica languidece y no llena nuestras ansias de infinitud. Volvemos a sentirnos en condiciones de atender el murmullo de ese ser lejano que parecía habernos abandonado. Necesitamos, en definitiva, la epifanía de lo sagrado, y, por paradójico que pudiera resultar, hemos de desligar este término de la exclusiva esfera de lo religioso.
