"Appunti di una giovane anima (Alexandra Tomasi di Lampedusa)" narra mezzo secolo (1904-1954) della storia d'Europa, compresa la Russia, attraverso la vita di una coppia straordinaria: Alexandra Wolff von Stomersee e lo scrittore siciliano Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa (autore de Il Gattopardo). La vicenda si svolge nel mezzo di tragedie e rovine delle due famiglie, dovuta in gran parte alle distruzioni e trasformazioni delle due guerre mondiali con il sapore del "mondo felice perduto" evidente ne Il Gattopardo. Come il marito Giuseppe, Alexandra Tomasi di Lampedusa, soprannominata "Licy" e anche "Principissa", parlava almeno cinque lingue ed era una profonda conoscitrice di Shakespeare e della letteratura russa ed europea. Donna dalla personalità duale, fu inoltre la prima presidente della Società italiana di Psicoanalisi e la prima donna psicoanalista in Italia e in Sicilia. Rivoluzionaria nell'intimo ma politicamente "zarista", nella sua giovinezza iniziò a lavorare intensamente con i pionieri della psicoanalisi ed ebbe al contempo involontari contatti con esponenti politici che posero le basi delle teorie del nazifascismo e con emanazioni della dittatura staliniana. Sposandosi in seconde nozze con Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, dopo un martoriato matrimonio con un principe baltico dichiaratamente omosessuale, si scontrò altresì con un mondo profondamente diverso da quello dove era cresciuta: il mondo siciliano. In particolare si trovò a fronteggiare il ristretto mondo della speciosa aristocrazia palermitana, tendente a sostenere Mussolini negli stessi anni in cui in Lettonia, dove Licy ha vissuto a lungo, le donne avevano già ottenuto il diritto al voto. Il romanzo ha diversi piani narrativi e, oltre ai protagonisti, sono presenti altri personaggi-chiave, reali o verosimili, che ruotano intorno alla coppia così come all'Europa del "secolo breve". A partire dalla narratrice, una "bambina eterea", ovvero una "giovane anima", che rivelerà solo nelle ultime righe la propria identità come un piccolo "giallo" incastonato in una storia d'avventura, di viaggi, di letteratura e di relazione culturale e psicologica tra un uomo e una donna straordinari. E che hanno fatto epoca.Gabriele Bonafede (Palermo 1965), ha ottenuto il Master in Public Policy and Planning alla facoltà d'economia della Northeastern University di Boston (USA) nel 1993 e il dottorato di ricerca in pianificazione territoriale in Italia nel 1994. Nel 1996 si è specializzato in Regional Studies in Developing Countries al MIT di Cambridge (USA). Poliglotta, lavora nell'ambito della cooperazione internazionale. Ha pubblicato cinque saggi su temi d'economia e sviluppo e articoli accademici in italiano e inglese. Dal dicembre 2015 pubblica e dirige il web magazine www.maredolce.com.
