About the Book

Applied Numerical Methods using MATLAB book is designed as an introductory undergraduate or graduate course for science and engineering students of all disciplines. The text covers all major aspects of applied numerical methods, including numerical computations, solution of algebraic and transdental equations, finite differences and interpolation, curve fitting, correlation and regression, numerical differentiation and integration, matrices and linear system of equations, numerical solution of ordinary differential equations, and numerical solution of partial differential equations. The book continues to maintain a student-friendly approach and numerical problem solving orientation. Presentations are limited to very basic topics to serve as an introduction to advanced topics in those areas of discipline. The purpose of the book is to present the principles and concepts of applied numerical methods as relevant to student learning. Some of the salient features of the book are: Lucid style Easy to understand methodology Coverage of all course fundamentals Clarity in the presentation of concepts Over 600 fully-solved problems with step-by-step solutions The numerous worked examples and unsolved exercise problems are intended to provide the reader with an awareness of the general applicability of principles and concepts of applied numerical methods. An extensive bibliography to guide the student to further sources of information on applied numerical methods topics covered in this book is provided at the end of the book. Answers to all end-of chapter problems are given in the book.About the AuthorRao V. Dukkipati is a Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering, and the Director of Graduate program at Fairfield University as well as a consultant in the field of road vehicle accident reconstruction. He is member of the Connecticut Academy of Sciences and Engineering (CASE), and a Fellow of both the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineers (CSME). Dr. Dukkipatis other professional memberships include the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), and SAE International. He has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University (1973), an MS in Mechanical Engineering from both the Andhra University, India (1969) and the University of New Brunswick, Canada (1971), a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Statistics from Andhra University (1969), and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Sri Venkateswara University, India (1966). Dr. Dukkipatis specialised areas of teaching and research include mechanical design, mechanics, vibrations, control systems, engineering system dynamics, economy and reliability, quality control, advanced engineering mathematics, vehicle dynamics and road vehicle accident reconstruction. Previously, Dr. Dukkipati worked at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft of Canada of the United Technologies Corporation in Montreal, Canada, and the National Research Council of Canada in Ottawa, Canada, the University of Windsor, Windsor, Canada, and the University of Toledo, Ohio. He is a licensed professional engineer in the province of Ontario, Canada. Dr. Dukkipati has published more than 300 papers in national and international journals and conferences and numerous technical reports. He has authored/co-authored more than 50 engineering books spanning a range of topics that includes vibrations, control systems, engineering system dynamics, economy and reliability, quality control, advanced engineering mathematics, robotics, numerical methods, kinematics and dynamics, railway vehicle dynamics, and road vehicle dynamics.
