Just like every other American, both at home and abroad, Jacqui Dupree stood horrified on September 11, 2001 as she stared at the television in shock. Instead of crippling her however, the events of that day catapulted her into a realization and stark clarity. Like a frigid glass of water thrown into her face, the shock made her gasp and step back as she took stock of her changed reality. Instead of immersing herself again into the business of the world, she immersed herself into the business of awareness; into the business of her fellow man and the environment of the home, we all share. She had her epiphany. She had her wake-up call. She moved to White Sulpher Springs, a small town in West Virginia and started anew. About the Author: L.L.Downes (Lynn Blocker) is fifty years old and currently lives in East Texas where she was the primary care-giver of her eighty-six year old mother. (1926-2013) In 2008, she found herself at a crossroads as she contemplated her future. She had worked at a major tire manufacturing company for ten years before, like so many Americans, her job was lost due to recession and outsourcing brought about by the increasingly fragile economy. Faced with the reality that her job, along with those of so many others, would most likely never return, she found comfort in the realization that she was now able to turn much needed attention to her mother and her growing health needs. Along with this blessing, came the opportunity to fulfill a dream and a promise made early in life, not only to herself, but also to her younger brother Toby, as she found herself with a lot of time on her hands. Time, which her previous job had not afforded her. When they were very young, a childhood promise was made between the siblings that one day they would write a book together, both being artists and lovers of the written word. Unfortunately, that dream never came to fruition, as Toby passed away in 1991 at the age of twenty-three due to complications from AIDS. This book is dedicated to her mother for sitting lovingly and patiently as she penned these words. Her love and support was always evident in her sweet smile. It is also dedicated to Toby, a fulfillment of that long ago promise. Although he was not physically present to pen these words, her love for him, and his celebrated spirit of adventure guided her in this effort. A dear late friend told her once; "You are guaranteed to fail if you never try. Therefore, it is better to attempt something great and fail, than attempt to do nothing and succeed."
