The truth is: Anxiety is often a healthy and normal emotion of human beings. But, when a person starts suffering from it in disproportionate levels, it can turn into a medical disorder.
Do you know that anxiety disorders belong to a category of mental health problems? Are you aware that too much of anxiety disorders can lead to excessive apprehension, nervousness, worry and fear? Read on to know more about the disorders and how they can affect our lives.
Anxiety disorders are often responsible for changing the behaviour and emotions of a person, in entirety. Severe anxiety disorders affect the day-to-day lifestyle of a person with him or her suffering from physical ailments as well.
Anxiety is defined as, "an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure." Normal bouts of anxiety are always healthy but when it goes to the levels of a disorder, it requires medical attention. The capacity to identify it at the right time helps in treating the condition.
Anxiety can definitely lead to distress but may not always require medical intervention. As suggested by doctors, feelings of anxiety are necessary for survival as well. Whenever there is a feeling of danger or other triggering situations, the body raises an alarm to either fight with it or escape from it. This is known as a "fight-or-flight" response. Adrenalin, a chemical hormone present in the brain, is responsible for the anxious reactions like sweating, increased heartbeat or increased sensitivity to the surroundings.
When the duration or seriousness of an anxious feeling goes out of proportion, it can give rise to a disorder. There are physical symptoms like nausea, increased blood pressure and other severe responses. Once anxiety becomes a disorder, it can hamper the daily lives of a person.
