Absichtliches Sprechen ist eine besondere Art des Handelns, dessen eigentliches Endziel ist, in anderen Wesen gewisse psychische Phanomene hervorzurufen. Anton Marty In der Forschung der letzten Jahre ist ein wachsendes Interesse fur die aus den Werken Bernard Bolzanos und Franz Brentanos entspringende Osterreichisch-Deutsche Philosophie zu verzeichnen. Anton Marty (1847-1914) und Karl Buhler (1879-1963) sind zwei Schlusselfiguren dieser Tradition. Ihre Beitrage im Gebiet der Philosophie der Sprache, der Psychologie und der Linguistik haben einen tiefgreifenden Einfluss auf die Entwicklung dieser Disziplinen ausgeubt. Trotzdem sind beide Denker bis heute meistens im Hintergrund der Forschung geblieben, so dass ihnen im Vergleich zu Brentano, Husserl oder Wittgenstein nur wenig Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wurde. Im vorliegenden Band werden die Sprachphilosophien dieser beiden Autoren naher untersucht und ihr Verhaltnis zueinander und zu spateren Traditionen - wie die der analytischen Philosophie und der kognitiven Pragmatik - wird beleuchtet. Im Zentrum der vorliegenden Studien steht die Frage des Verhaltnisses von Denken und Sprache, ein Verhaltnis das zugleich den gemeinsamen Nenner und den Scheidepunkt von Martys und Buhlers Denken darstellt. Beide Denker sind sich einig, dass Denken und Sprache aufs Engste verbunden sind. Ihre Meinungen gehen jedoch auseinander, wenn es darum geht, die Rolle des Denkens genauer zu bestimmen. Wahrend Marty die Hauptfunktion der Sprache (die Bedeutung) im Erwecken bestimmter psychischer Phanomene im Anderen sieht, besteht fur Buhler das Wesentliche der Sprache in ihrer Darstellungsfunktion, in der objektiven Koordination von Sprachmitteln mit Sachen und Sachverhalten. Buhler entwickelt sein beruhmt gewordenes Organonmodell der Sprache ausgehend und in Abgrenzung von Martyss 1908 veroffentlichten Untersuchungen zur Grundlegung der allgemeinen Grammatik und Sprachphilosophie, denen er eine ausfuhrliche Rezension widmet. Wahrend ein Teil der Beitrage des Bandes sich den jeweils spezifischen Thesen Marty's (Chrudzimski, Rollinger) und Buhlers (Friedrich, Samain, Fisette) zur Sprache und zum Denken sowie ihrer Einbettung in den jeweiligen zeitgenossischen Diskussionskontext widmet, hinterfragt ein anderer Teil Buhlers Marty-Kritik und ermoglicht diese sowohl aus historischer Sicht (Frechette, Majolino, Cesalli) wie auch ausgehend von den aktuellen Diskussionen in der Sprachphilosophie (Liedtke) zu relativieren. Zwei Beitrage (Knobloch, Moeschler) dokumentieren das gegenwartige Interesse an den von Buhler und Marty entwickelten Ideen im Rahmen der kognitiven Pragmatik und bei der Auseinandersetzung mit neo-evolutionaren Sprachtheorien.
