An old man recounts the heydays of his warrior life including an episode where he fires an arrow at a, what he thought was a huge Bumble Bee which turned out to be a Japanese Zero fighter. Milo powder can be something a child will go to great lengths to get. Tomatoes can be so enticing that a child can get lost for. When you go to a foreign school, you mention simple commonsense things that can confound your parents, like your parents know a toilet is a toilet but at the American mission school, they don't have toilets but bathrooms and you want to use a bathroom. Now that is a problem when at the local school, there is only pit latrines that are toilets. You leave for your sister as her share of the booty - a stolen bird, is it's round head. What can she get out of that as a morsel to eat. Boys can be mean. You nearly get an arrow in the head for teasing a crack shot old man. This is a collection of six stories of what children especially young boys do in a Papua New Guinea rural village. The children have to make up their own fun filled activities in and around grasslands, river banks or in and around villages. Some of these activities are spontaneous and or are not pre-planned. Plus a bonus of lyrics to one of the local ballads in the Yuhu-yuho Tokano language.
About the Author: Baka Bina works for the Papua New Guinea Courts Registry as Assistant Registrar in Port Moresby. He is married to a school teacher. Mr. Bina is a a trained English teacher and recently became a lawyer getting his qualifications from UPNG and the Legal Training Institute. Mr Bina writes whenever he can and especially on weekends and during public holidays. Mr. Bina writes stories about places and events from his area in Goroka in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. he tells and tries to capture the richness and nuances of his culture through these stories. Mr. Bina has published a short story with Oxfords University Press - 'Zymur' 1995 that was part of the Pacific Reader Series and was also included in an Anthology. He has also self published these four other works on CreateSpace; Haffies Are Made, They are Not Born (Aug. 2014 - short story); The Curse of the Lamisi (Sept.2014 - short story); Man of Calibre Jan 2015 - novella); Sweet Garaiina Apo (June 2015 - novella); and now Antics of Alonaa v1 (Dec 2016 anthology). The novella Man of Calibre won the 2015 Crocodile Prize Book of the year. Crocodile Prize is the national literature competition for Papua New Guinea. Mr. Bina also writes short stories for the Crocodile Prize and also has entered the Commonwealth Writers competitions too. He also writes and posts these stories on PNG Book Club and Yuhu-yuho facebook pages.
