About the Book

Another Alias is set in the New South Wales outback and Sydney, Australia, between 1919 and 1922. AA is an engaging tale of Chinese opium dens, gold and greed, scams, counter-scams, and blackmail. Catherine Dunn, a young Irish lass, arrives in the fictional mining town of Gunnadoo, discovers her fiancé dead and is left destitute when scammed of her savings. With the aid of a French dictionary, and feisty attitude, Catherine masquerades in the guise of a French Mademoiselle as she seeks retribution. The seven deadly sins are prominent themes as decent men and women wishing to create a future for their families, and the divergent underbelly of shady politicians, rogues, prostitutes and gamblers, make for many humouress but plausible consequences. Reminiscent of Bryce Courtenay's storytelling, Davidson's sweeping novel is attractive to a broad age group of male and female readers alike and will appeal to an international audience. It is a strength and a further appeal of Davidson's storytelling that it is not easy to 'pigeon-hole' his work into one specific genre. This epic novel (130,000 words) is professionally edited and professionally formatted with a 12pt font. Three complimentary chapters of the sequel, Duty by Coercion, are included.
About the Author: Greg Davidson was born in 1950, of Italian heritage (Bruni) on his mother's side and an unknown lineage (Mann) on his Tasmanian father's side. Greg's formative years were spent on a farm at Ballarat (the location of vast gold mining strikes in the 1800's); this lifestyle became the foundation for his fertile imagination before moving to the seaside suburb of Mordialloc. Formal schooling was completed at Aspendale Technical College, and then Greg commenced working life at a Melbourne art studio as a trainee commercial artist. In 1969 he relocated to Sydney to study theatre. What followed was a period of heady days when military personnel on R&R leave from the Vietnam War took partying to the limits. The counter-culture thrived in such an atmosphere and so did Greg, who shared a squat in Victoria Street, Kings Cross. Having studied under the tutorage of Hayes Gordon and Peter Collingwood the opportunity to audition for Crawford Productions enticed a return to Melbourne. London called, and then Europe and Scandinavia; busking with a guitar provided income and the opportunity for travel. Returning to Australia in 1977, Greg commenced performing at major venues on the Surfers Paradise tourist strip. He then began touring with bands and continued writing/performing original songs until contracted in 1986 as resident lighting board operator at the Gold Coast Arts Centre, Queensland; it was during this period he also performed at the Australian Pavilion, World Expo '88 - Brisbane. In 1992, he went back on the road, touring under the management of international promoter: Bernie Stahl. Greg commenced a literary career in 2000, and is a commissioned cartoonist, published playwright and short story writer. He is also a sculptor fast gaining recognition for the VacArtistry Collection; the world's largest exhibition of recycled vacuum cleaners.
