About the Book

The population explosion of the species Homo Sapiens, polluting technologies leading to climate change, and the rapid destruction of life sustaining eco-systems have brought us to the edge of a precipice. We are almost at the point of no return. We need to bring to a screeching halt this multi-pronged destruction of the ability of our planet to sustain life and the decimation of every other living species. The time to act is now. Armed conflict, terrorism and military preparedness have transfixed our attention. Violent conflict is in itself an immeasurable tragedy. However, the tragedy of human conflict transcends the painful human cost of conflict itself, by resulting in the neglect of global issues that threaten the survival of all humans and all life of forms. What we do in this century will decide either the long term viability of this planet in supporting all forms of life or the slow but inevitable journey over the cliff of disaster. This book is the perspective of a physician, who in the pursuit of truth sees human beings as members of a single species with a common origin, a shared interrelated existence, and a common destiny. This book is written as a plea. It is a call for nations across the world to come together to stop the ruinous course that we have taken, and help nurture this planet into a beautiful home for all humans and all life forms for millions of years into the future.
About the Author: Gladwin Das MD, is an Interventional Cardiologist who practices in Minnesota. He is on the faculty at the University of Minnesota Medical School. "My profession is to heal, comfort the sick and save lives. As I watch horrific, barbaric violence in many parts of the world, I often ask: Who are we humans? What are we? Where are we?" His book "An Anguished Cry For Our Endangered Planet" is an analysis of religion, science, human conflict and the irresponsible neglect of serious threats that endanger all life on Earth. It concludes by suggesting critical programs we need to embark on to reverse the ruinous course that we have taken.
