The year is 2106, and Earth is just one of many inhabited planets engaged in tenuous diplomacy on a galactic scale. Alien races have made themselves known: the doggish Karmanegaad, ambitious Ispauldi, feuding Moari and Garzzi, blustering Harl, and powerful Arrani.
And lurking in the background are the ruinous powers, once mortal agents, driven insane by contact with the alternate dimension, which makes interstellar travel possible. Their minds twisted by the demons lurking therein, they have become unwitting accomplices to the destruction of all.
But as the warp destroys, so too does it offer one glimmer of salvation. The Hel-karans, a weapon forged by the deposed God of War, have found new avatars among a group of pirates, who have yet to realize their destiny.
Their paths cross with Julia Petreit, who is just trying to survive in a world gone insane. She recalls the man who could never be her sweetheart, William Halleck. After learning of his interstellar suicide mission, she's more than a little shocked when he shows up five years later-and right before her wedding. William, now in league with the same pirates he was meant to die against, kidnaps Julia to serve as bait for the Sayer of Lies, a demon with ties to Julia's fiancé.
When William's original plan goes awry, Julia has no choice but to join his cause. To do so, she must transform from a terrified twenty-two-year-old into the ultimate weapon, infused with demonic strength, and the power to destroy the denizens of darkness within their own lair.
Before she can destroy the demonic forces, however, Julia will have to survive her fiancé's machinations as well as intense interstellar conflict. Her battle with the demons will leave scars from which the galaxy itself may not recover.
