On a dark, rainy night in New Orleans, Mark Lehman, son of US President Harry Lehman, gives his Secret Service agents the slip-and winds up dead. He is not the victim of random violence, however. Across the country, masked men are murdering the children and wives of several other prominent Washington, DC, officials at that exact moment.
Behind this coordinated attack stands business tycoon Wolfgang Aswad Modeus, an evil and power-hungry man determined to force President Lehman out of office. While the President and his wife mourn the death of their son, Modeus and his followers turn up the pressure, unleashing unprecedented acts of violence and terrorism throughout the land.
As the nation is left reeling in the wake of the murderous violence, President Lehman attempts to lead his people while simultaneously confronting his own faltering faith and failing convictions.
