So haben die Zufriedenheit und die Motivation der Mitarbeiter heute einen entscheidenden Einfluss auf den langfristigen Erfolg eines Unternehmens. Die von der Autorin untersuchte Literatur ist sich durchgehend darüber einig, dass ein Betrieb, der sich ausschließlich am kurzfristigen Gewinn orientiert, langfristig unweigerlich scheitert. Nur wer gesellschaftliche Veränderungen und den damit verbundenen Wertewandel bei den Beschäftigten in seiner Unternehmens- und Führungsstrategie berücksichtige, habe eine reelle Chance auf langfristigen Erfolg und Steigerung der Leistungsbereitschaft seiner Mitarbeiter. Z.B. heißt es: "Eine der Hauptaufgaben der Führungskraft ist es, die Mitarbeiter zu einer Leistung zu bewegen, die den Belangen des Unternehmens gerecht werden. Dabei soll sie die Angestellten motivieren und zu Höchstleistungen bringen."1 Zum Thema Mitarbeiterführung existieren eine Vielzahl von Theorien und Definitionen. Mitarbeiter zu führen bedeutet demnach (unter anderem): "andere Menschen in einer formalen Organisation unter konkreten Umweltbedingungen, dazu zu bewegen, Aufgaben zu übernehmen und erfolgreich auszuführen, wobei humane Ansprüche gewahrt werden."2 Die Begriffe Führungsmodell und Führungstechniken stehen in einer engen Beziehung zum Wort 'Führungsstil', sodass im Laufe der Arbeit näher auf sie eingegangen wird. Die Autorin stellt in der vorliegenden Studie zur Personalführung die Klassifikation unterschiedlicher Führungsstile und - techniken vor, zieht Vergleiche und geht auf die dazugehörenden Führungsmittel ein.
