About the Book

Der Amerikaner Andre Previn (*1929 in Berlin) ist einer der vielseitigsten Musiker der Gegenwart. Er dirigierte uber Jahrzehnte die fuhrenden Orchester der Welt und nahm uber 300 Tontrager auf. Als klassischer Klaviervirtuose arbeitete er mit Kollegen wie Vladimir Ashkenazy oder Leonard Bernstein. Er wirkte auch in Hollywood, wo er u.a. vier Oscars gewann. Auf dem Hohepunkt ihrer Bedeutung spielte er zudem auf legendaren Jazzbuhnen wie dem Newport Jazz Festival oder dem Apollo Theatre in New York; das erste Jazzalbum, das sich mehr als eine Millionen Mal verkaufte, geht auf sein Konto. Wahrend er Lieder an der Spitze der amerikanischen Billboard-Popcharts hatte, entwickelte sich seine Fassung von A Streetcar Named Desire (1998) zu einer der meistinszenierten zeitgenossischen Opern. Er gewann uber ein halbes Jahrhundert verteilt ein Dutzend Grammys in Crossover, Klassik, Jazz, Film- und Popmusik sowie fur seine Lebensleistung.

Frederic Dohl zeichnet diesen ungewohnlichen kunstlerischen Werdegang nach. Besonderes Augenmerk gilt dabei der Schilderung der Eigenart von Previns Asthetik und Biographie sowie der Reaktionen, auf die er zeitlebens traf.


About the Author: Frederic Dohl, geb. 1978, Studium der Musikwissenschaft, Vergleichenden Musikwissenschaft und Rechtswissenschaft an der Freien Universitat Berlin. 2004 Magister Artium und 1. Juristisches Staatsexamen. 2007 2. Juristisches Staatsexamen. 2008 Promotion bei Prof. Albrecht Riethmuller (Freie Universitat Berlin) im Fach Musikwissenschaft mit einer Arbeit uber die Entstehung der Barbershop Harmony. Seit 2007 als Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter im musikwissenschaftlichen Teilprojekt B4 im SFB 626 an der Freien Universitat Berlin und als Rechtsanwalt tatig.
