About the Book

English summary: This book is the first systematic study of anaphora, the cataphora and deixis in Plautus. The study focuses specifically on anaphoric, deictic, and cataphoric mechanisms implemented by the adjective-pronouns is, hic, iste, ille, and by the adverbs on this same line. The choice of the complete works of Plautus was dictated by its archaic language and the colloquial registry that adds specific connotations to the usage of adjective-pronouns and deictic adverbs. A thorough analysis of all jobs has led to a refinement of their meaning, and hence, a refinement of the translation, which, if it is mechanical, loses significant meaning. The proposed analysis is based primarily on grammatical facts but also on the stage interpretation of the text; this interpretation yields important nuances which must be accounted for in a discursive approach. French text.
