"Anaconda" es un cuento creado por el autor uruguayo Horacio Quiroga, publicado en 1921 y perteneciente al libro Anaconda y otros cuentos. La historia comienza con la presentación de Lanceolada, una yarará, que mientras iba de caza, descubrió la presencia del Hombre en la selva, en un viejo edificio deshabitado, ella decide avisar al Congreso de las Víboras, optando por pedir ayuda a sus primas, las culebras (también referidas como "Cazadoras" y no venenosas), con quien tienen una antigua rivalidad, y así poder investigar y enfrentar la situación. De esa forma, la culebra llamada Ñacaniná, percatándose del peligro que puede suponer para las culebras la presencia de los humanos ya que son muy similares en aspecto y pueden confundirlas con las yararás, resuelve explorar sigilosamente el viejo edificio. Averigua que los humanos tienen planeado cazar a todas las víboras para extraerles todo el veneno, y con esa novedad intenta escapar de la casa, para avisar al Congreso, siendo vista por los hombres. Al comunicarle sus hallazgos al Congreso, Cruzada, la misma que le pidió ayuda a Ñacaniná, se ofrece a volver nuevamente al lugar y termina siendo capturada, conociendo a Hamadrías, una impresionante cobra real de la India. Junto a ella, deciden crear un efectivo plan de escape que consiste en que Cruzada se deje morder por Hamadrías. El plan surtió efecto, ya que Cruzada logró ser considerada muerta y ayudar a huir a Hamadrías, en el proceso hiriendo las dos juntas a un hombre. Durante el Congreso que estaba siendo ejercido antes de que Cruzada y Hamadrías llegasen, apareció Anaconda, generando la antipatía de muchas, debido a que esta se encuentra en buenos términos con el ser humano. Cuando arriban Hamadrías y Cruzada y narran lo sucedido, se determina que hay que terminar de atacar a los humanos y lo más conveniente sería matar a los caballos, a lo que la mayoría estuvo de acuerdo, exceptuando a Cruzada, Ñacaniná y Anaconda, quienes creían que atacar al perro sería lo más útil ya que este está inmunizado y adiestrado para perseguirlas. Se puede presenciar una discusión entre Anaconda y Hamadrías, debido a que la última quería ejercer el mando entre las víboras. Mientras ejecutan el ataque, las víboras se dan cuenta de que tendrían que haber atacado al perro (Daboy) y deciden retirarse, estando la mayoría de ellas ya muertas o destrozadas, confiando otra vez en Hamadrías, ignorando que las llevaría a la muerte solo por su orgullo herido. Es en ese momento que Hamadrías y Anaconda se enfrentan, dando por acabado el Congreso de Víboras, ganando Anaconda. Instantes después, los hombres y Daboy, aniquilan a las víboras restantes, pero salvan a Anaconda.
