La América Indígena decimonónica desde nueve miradas y perspectivas viene a sumarse a una historiografía latinoamericanista que busca encontrar en lo comparativo procesos que afectaron a aquellos países que cuentan con un alto porcentaje de población indígena en sus territorios. El libro muestra cómo se realizaron ajustes, negociaciones, acuerdos y conflictos en la búsqueda de parte de los grupos de poder por levantarse como Naciones. Las y los autores buscan visibilizar los procesos y momentos históricos en Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Chile, Cuba, Guatemala, México, Perú y Venezuela, no solamente desde las perspectivas historiográficas"nacionales" sino proponiendo la necesidad de realizar estudios de larga duración, no de linealidad histórica, que permitan, no solo realizar comparaciones entre nuestros países y comprender de mejor manera como se dieron, sino también a través de ir desmitificando la idea de unidad por parte de nuestros países y dejar de lado que todos los pueblos indígenas eran iguales o semejantes. De esta manera, este libro abre nuevas preguntas, propone periodizaciones y, sobre todo, pone en el tamiz del diálogo los procesos históricos desde nueve miradas.

Antonio Escobar Ohmstede es Profesor-Investigador del Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social (CIESAS) desde 1986. Realizó sus estudios de doctorado en El Colegio de México (1994). Fue Director del Archivo Histórico del Agua (CIESAS- CONAGUA) de 2002 a 2004. Es miembro del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores-CONACyT. En 2002 obtuvo la beca de The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation y, entre 2014 y 2015, disfrutó una fellowship por parte de la Universidad de Texas en Austin.
