For decades the US and NATO depended on the "QME" or "Qualitative Military Edge Doctrine" to ensure victory. What the doctrine comes down to is that the Western Militaries have better technology and better training and because of this, they will have the edge against any numerically superior enemy, i.e. Russia, China.
